520	3		_aEL Ordovícico en la Provincia de Jujuy tiene ciertas características y son: a) Gran espesor; b) Cierta regularidad y constancia granulomérica; c) Excepcional riqueza fosilífera; d) La cuenca es la mayor en extensión de todas las del paleozoico inferior. La secuencia Ordovícica es prácticamente normal y está constituida fundamentalmente por sedimentitas calcáreas, areniscas y pelitas representativas de distintos ambientes marinos. El espesor de las capas Ordovícicas se estima superior a los 6.000 metros, reconociéndose en ellas niveles estrategráficos equivalente al lapso Tremadociano-Caradociano documentados paleontológicamente.
