El área del volcán Socompa, situada en la faja volcánica occidental de la Puna Argentinca, presenta características goelógicas e hidrogeológicas favorables para la existencia de un campo geotérmico. -En este trabajo se describen la estratigrafía volcánica de la zona, distinguiendose las diferentes unidades litológicas que integran la columna geológica, las estructuras presentes, las cuencas imbríferas, el esquema hidrofeológico bosquejado y las posibles temperaturas del reservorio obtenidas en base a geotermómetros químicos de las aguas termales. En funcion de estos factores y de la coveniente infraestructura estratégica se selecciona el área como prioritaria para estudios de prefactibilidad en la Puna Salteña. The Socompa volcanoe area, located in the west volcanic belt of the Puna (Argentina), presents geológical and hydrogeologfical favourable characteristics that suggest the existence of e geothermal field. It is described the volcanic stratigraphy of the zone and analysed the hydrogeologv system and the circulation scheme and possible temperatures obtaied on the base of chemical geothermometers of the spring hot waters.
